As the year comes to an end, we are looking at the highlights of our players and this time, we shift our focus on our FIFA department.
It has been an eventful year for our FIFA crew, with them participating in almost every big tournament there was in course of 2016. We will highlight the most memorable moments of Mohammed 'MoAubameyang' Harkous, Hasan 'hasoo19' Eker, Kevin 'AssiaKevin' Assia and Savas 'Gooku94' Destanoglu.
Where it all started: gamescom 2016
When the official launch of the organisation on Wednesday, August 17th, actually happened, we had already announced that both MoAubameyang and AssiaKevin will be part of the new squad. Both already had a pretty eventful 2016 with highlights being MoAubameyang first winning the ESL German Championship in the Spring Season and one week later making it to the finals of the Virtuelle Bundesliga German Championship only falling short to Bubu.
ESL Summer Season 2016
But there was not a long of time to get comfortable in their new team jerseys as both had to fight for the ESL Summer Season Championship on the Saturday of gamescom 2016. Unfortunately, the whole event was surrounded by a huge controversy as the setup on the Sony Stage has not been properly vetted before the event took place which resulted in bluetooth connection problems for our very own MoAubameyang. Although he had a great performance in the rearranged fixture, TimoX's lead was insurmountable which in the end denied MoAubameyang of his proper chance to defend his title from the Spring Season.
His team-mate AssiaKevin on the other hand was not affected by these problems as his semi-final versus Dr. Erhano has not been begun at gamescom but has been rescheduled to take place at the alternate location. A very good thing as it turned out: he has won his best-of-five series in very dominating fashion only conceding one goal in the second game which catapulted him into the final where TimoX was waiting for him. Unfortunately, he was not able to go all the way as he lost out on the title due to goal difference.
expert soccer challenge
Not long after the ESL Summer Season 2016 has come to an end, we invited the best FIFA players to come join us at IFA in Berlin at the beginning of September. We sure had a blast during those three days - not only with our resident FIFA players but also with a known figure from the real football world.
In the end, the competition was extremely tense and featured many surprises, a lot of the familiar opponents squaring off and, of course, a lot of fun along the way (5 interesting things about the expert soccer challenge). The whole tournament came to a close in a very nice fashion from our point-of-view as both AssiaKevin and MoAubameyang squared off in the final to determine the overall winner - and it was AssiaKevin who had the edge this time.
Since our launch in August, we have added not one but two players to our roster: hasoo19 and Gooku94. hasoo19 has caught many people's attention by showing a great performance in his first competitive season while Gooku94 has had a great year all-around with his second place at the ESL Spring Season Championship and his semi-final spot at the Virtuelle Bundesliga (where he had to give in to MoAubameyang both times) which he crowned by placing third at this year's ESWC in Paris.
The four boys had a lot of fun together during our FIFA session in our office in Bad Tölz a couple of weeks back.
ESL Winter Season 2016
The last significant title of the year 2016 went to a very familiar face. Duisburg seems to bode well for MoAubameyang as he was able to win the ESL Spring Season Championship as well as the ESL Winter Season Championship there in the same year. After placing first in the cup stage and dominating his opponents in the group stage, he made the Saturday look very easy as well while not losing a game and only drawing once in the final against M4RV. And he managed to score one beauty after the other.
What does 2017 hold in store?
2017 will be action-packed to say the least - the Virtuelle Bundesliga will get into gear, the ESL kicks off its Spring Season in early February and, most importantly, FUT Champions will instantly leave its mark in January as next month will host the qualification for the Season 2 Regional Finals. Of course, all four of our players will give their utmost best to make it far in all of them and affirm the impression they made onto the scene in the last 12 months.
We hope that we as a collective will have as good of a time as we had since launching the project. Definitely keep an eye on us as we have huge plans for the future.
