5+1 Things to watch out for in early 2017

With New Year's Eve right around the corner, it's time to take a look at what will be in store for all of us as soon as our calendars say 2017.

Start of Global StarCraft II League Season 1

With IEM Gyeonggi having kicked off WCS Korea 2017 this month, it is time to get into the next gear with GSL Season 1 getting started in the new format. Because Byeon Hyeon 'ByuN' Woo and Sasha 'Scarlett' Hostyn have been rushing through the qualifier, they will be two of the 32 players that will participate in the first group stage which kicks off on January 4th and goes through the whole of January.

To be able to defend his title he has won at BlizzCon 2016, he will have to gain enough points over the course of the year in order to qualify for the WCS Global Playoffs at BlizzCon 2017. This road starts now.

WESG 2016 Grand Finals

Sticking to StarCraft II and Scarlett, we have the World Electronic Sports Games 2016 Grand Final at the start of 2017 as well.

The tournament sponsored by Alibaba was under some scheduling difficulties so the organisers decided to let it happen at the beginning of next year - and our Scarlett will be part of it.

After she has qualified back in October, she has been eagerly awaiting her participation in Changzhou, China where there will be a prize pool of over $400,000 on the line. The event will take place from January 12th until January 15th and will host great StarCraft II action.

Start of CS:GO 5on5 Female Open Spring 2017

Having talked about titles that have to be defended: our CS:GO Ladies will try to do the same as they participate for the CS:GO 5on5 Female Open Spring 2017.

After having beaten Team Property and Mormon Jesus in winner bracket and grand final respectively to bring the title home to Team expert, a new season will mean a new opportunity to gain momentum for the rest of the year.

Continuation of eXeS Team Championship

A new team competition has risen and it is called the eXeS Team Championship. Our players have already played three of the five group stage matches and will continue to give their best in order to make it far into the play-off stage. The first matchday of the new year will be on Sunday, January 8th and will feature both expert.Black and expert.Orange on the tracks.

After both have been in the final of the Stadium Team Championship #12, they should be in a great position to succeed in this tournament as well.

ESL Spring Season 2017

I guess defending titles should be the theme of this article.

Mohammed 'MoAubameyang' Harkous, as well as the rest of our FIFA squad, of course, will once again fight for the ESL German Championship by participating in the Spring Season of 2017. With MoAubameyang, Kevin 'AssiaKevin' Assia and Hasan 'hasoo19' Eker again being seeded and Savas 'Gooku94' Destanoglu coming out of the Swiss Qualification, we will have four participants this time around.

The season is supposed to start in February and with the new game mode which will feature FIFA Ultimate Team instead of the head-to-head mode, we will have a very interesting dynamic.

Secret project for 2017

Yes, we have something coming up for the immediate start of 2017 which will give us the opportunity to go into unchartered territories. Unfortunately, we do not have any more details on that but rest assured: it will be very interesting for you to follow!

Conclusion

All in all, we have a lot of things to look forward to as soon as the turn of the year has happened - and we hope you will stay a part of our journey. What are you looking for the most in 2017? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter.
